As the Chinese proverb says:
To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world.
I can’t help but agree with it.Although it takes up A LOT of time, it is worth the result
“What’s the point of learning a new language?” – you may ask
There are numerous reasons for that, that’s why I decided to make a list of them – I just can’t put it all in one sentence!
What does knowledge of a foreign language give you?
- New acquaintances
Even if you don’t speak this language fluently yet. There are lots of websites where you can find a penpal willing to help you.In the meantime, you guys will get to know each other, find out new interesting facts about each other’s countries and – VOILA! – you now have a good friend on the other side of the world 😉
- Movies and books with original sound
If the language you’re learning is widespread in the world, then there are likely to be many movies, TV-series and books in it.Thus your range of movies that you can watch with their original sound expands.Personally for me, it’s always more pleasant to hear actors’ REAL voices and intonation.
- Travel opportunities
Even if you speak English (and obviously you do if you’re here reading my blog) – an international language which is supposed to be understood everywhere – it’s still better to speak the local language.Firstly, it guarantees that everybody (even those who don’t speak English) will understand you.Secondly, it will endear you to the natives, becaaaause…
“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.” Nelson Mandela.
- Brain work
By learning a new language you can actually become smarter and improve your memory.Just like physical exercise builds muscles, learning something increases our brain power.
- Career opportunities
The more languages you know – the more valuable employee you are.Nowadays a lot of people work in international companies, so knowledge of a foreign language will come in handy 😉
So, that’s it . I hope this post encouraged you to start learning a new language 😀
If you think of any other reasons – share it with me by leaving a comment 😉 (you can do it anonymously, by the way)
